Using Snapchat Memories for Business Marketing
Snapchat has recently revealed a new feature that adds to the instant image and video sharing experience.
Snapchat Memories allows you to save images or videos. This is great news for small businesses. Those who have realised the benefits it can offer their business, are utlising Snapchat Memories as part of their marketing strategy.
Read on to find out more and how you can utilise it as well.
Snapchat Memories, what is it?
Snapchat are allowing you to hold onto photos and videos longer than ten seconds, as in the case of a single snap, or 24 hours as in the case of Stories. You can now save your content to Memories, which archives your snaps into categories meaning you can search for them at a later date.
You should consider using Snapchat for marketing particularly if you want to target the younger demographic in a fun and engaging way and Memories now allows you to archive your Stories and reuse them later.
First, make sure your app is updated to the latest version. From the main camera you slide up to access Memories, where you’ll be able to view all of your saved snaps.
You create your snap and add your filters, text and drawings as usual. When you’re happy with it tap the ‘Save’ icon which will then save the picture or video to your memories.
You can create a story from your snaps saved in your Memories by pressing and holding the individual snap, clicking ‘My Snap’ then ‘Create story from this snap’.
You can select several snaps to include in your Story, as long as they’re saved in your Memories.
If you want to save a picture from your camera roll in Snapchat Memories, simply go to Snapchat settings -‘Find Memories’ - ‘import snaps from camera roll’.
Similarly, if you want to save a picture from your Memories you press and hold the snap and select ‘export to your camera roll’.
The pictures saved into Memories are backed up by Snapchat’s servers so you’ll never lose a photo or video. However, although the app has access to your camera roll it will not be able to view, save or back up the images there.
Getting Started with Snapchat Memories
Once you’re familiar with the new feature why not try out a few of these content ideas:
- Design specific ad style pictures for campaigns and import them from your camera roll.
- Reuse previous snaps that performed well to create excitement about that particular product or message e.g. if the dress in the picture is back in stock you could repost it on Snapchat but also use it on other social media channels to cross promote.
- Use the new Memories function and collate your snaps for a stronger narrative.

Snapchat is a major social media player – if your target audience are teenage to mid-twenty year-olds, then they’re likely to be using Snapchat. Snapchat Memories is a great way to target them by creating content that can be viewed over and over, whilst still retaining the spontaneity loved by Snapchat users.
